Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - Kapkwai Exploration Centre – Tutum Cave Camp (2,667 m)
After briefing at the Kapkwai Forest Exploration Centre, begin your hike through lush montane forest alive with birds and primates. Stop at Chebonet Falls or the Tepeth viewpoint for panoramic views of Kapchorwa. Camp overnight at Tutum Cave, a natural rock shelter behind a waterfall.
Day 2 - Tutum Cave – Kajeri Camp (3,383 m)
The trail climbs steadily through forest and bamboo before opening into the moorland zone. Expect to see giant heather trees, unique alpine flowers, and occasional duikers grazing in the mist. Arrive at Kajeri Camp for dinner and overnight.
6-7 - Kajeri – Mude Cave Camp (3,500 m)
Continue across the rolling moorland towards Mude Camp, where all three main trails converge. The scenery here is dramatic, with wide views over the Elgon caldera. Set up camp and rest in preparation for the summit climb.
Day 4 - Mude Camp – Wagagai Peak (4,321 m) – Return to Mude Camp
A challenging but rewarding day! The final ascent takes you past unique afro-alpine vegetation and rocky outcrops to Wagagai Peak — the park’s highest point. Enjoy sweeping views over Uganda and Kenya before descending back to Mude Camp.
Day 5 - Mude – Kapkwai (Descent)
Descend gradually through bamboo forest and open grassland back to Kapkwai. Transfer to your lodge near Sipi Falls for a hot shower and celebration dinner overlooking the valley.
